Patna: Police arrest five with arms

PATNA: The Special Task Force (STF) of state police on Monday arrested five criminals after an encounter with them in Tarapur diara under the Mufassil police station area in on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF team raided the riverine area around 5am. Taken aback by the sudden raid, the criminals fired 45 to 50 rounds. The STF team, on the other hand, fired 19 rounds. The STF personnel also seized two .315 rifles, three country-made pistols, four country-made rifles, 87 bullets and 13 live cartridges from the possession of the criminals.

The arrested criminals have been identified as Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Nasrul, Shambhu Mandal, Dashrath Singh and and Jitendra Singh. According to SP (incharge) Rambabu, while Aslam is accused in eight murder cases, the other arrested criminals are involved in several murder, robbery, extortion and kidnapping cases.

The STF team also carried out an extensive combing operation in the riverine area after the encounter. This is the STF’s second crack down on criminal gangs active in diara areas in three days. On November 23, the STF had raided the riverine area in .
