Footbridge across NH24 to link Sector 62 metro with Indirapuram

NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is exploring an option to link Indirapuram in Ghaziabad with the Electronic City (Sect0r 62) metro station in Noida through a bridge over NH-24.

The project, if approved, would be part of the NHAI’s plan to widen the highway to 16 lanes. The Noida Authority has written to the NHAI to plan a bridge in such a way that people from Indirapuram township can cross over to the metro station without having to get down on the highway.

The request has been made keeping in mind the footfall the metro station will witness once it becomes operational and the consequent traffic congestion. The last station of the Blue Line extension, Electronic City, will have two gates — one on the Model Town-Mamura road and the other on the H-block market road in Sector 63.

NHAI officials said they anyway had plans to link Indirapuram with Noida when they prepared the blue print for widening NH-24. But RP Singh, project director of NHAI, said the agency had not included the Electronic City metro station as part of its plan to build the bridge.

TOI had reported on September 5 that the Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police had written to Noida Authority and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to construct two bridges each — one connecting the metro station with Noida and the other with Indirapuram.

SP (traffic) Anil Jha said that in case the bridge from the Ghaziabad side does not extend up to the metro station, autos and buses which line up along the Model Town roundabout will shift to outside the metro station gates to ease traffic snarls.

Pradeep Garg, project engineer of work circle 4, said they were in discussion with NHAI officials on the proposed bridge linking the two towns.

“We will now send a letter to NHAI so that they cover the metro station too. It is imperative that commuters from Ghaziabad are able to access the metro station, which will see major footfall from both areas,” he said.

Project director Singh said that since the suggestion had come from the Noida Authority, they might tweak their original plan to link the metro station with the bridge. “We have a plan for linking the Indirapuram side with Noida in such a way that the bridge crosses over NH-24. We will work it out and include the metro station too. It is a part of the existing 16-lane widening project and not a separate one,” he said.

The DMRC is also building a to link Highway Tower in Sector 62 with the metro station’s gate on the Model Town-Mamura road. The traffic police have sought a dedicated stand for auto-rickshaws and NMRC buses, which currently line up along the busy Model Town-Mamura road. The area has several offices whose workers will use the metro station when it becomes operational.
