Fake woman IPS officer, aide arrested in Kharar

MOHALI: A was arrested along with an accomplice from Kharar on Tuesday. Posing as an from the 2015 batch, Tanishka Sangwan, 28, of Delhi rang up the deputy superintendent of police and the SP for government vehicle and security.

Kharar city station house officer (SHO) inspector Bhagwant Singh said: “The woman claimed she was posted at the Centre‘s narcotics department and had come here on assignment to take stock of the drug situation in Punjab.” Smelling a rat, the SP and the DSP asked the Kharar SHO to check her credentials. When a police team went to the reported address in Kharar, she failed to produce any documents of identification and was arrested along with associate Varun Sharma, 28, with whom she had been staying for three years. Police said the duo had cheated many people on the pretext of providing them with government jobs for up to Rs 20 lakh. The SHO said: “Tanishka and Varun had met in Delhi. Tanishka wanted to be an IPS officer but had failed to clear the 2015 civil services examination.”
