Criminals from nearby districts target Lucknow

LUCKNOW: In yet another incident of loot, a miscreant from Lakhimpur Kheri committed the crime in Lucknow and fled. Over the past year, criminals from adjoining districts such as Rae Bareli, , Sitapur, Sultanpur, Jaunpur and Lakhimpur Kheri have committed thefts, dacoity and murder in the state capital and escaped easily.

Police in the state capital attribute the infiltration of miscreants from adjoining areas to the development of Lucknow, expansion on the outskirts and better connectivity from certain towns to Nepal, New Delhi, and Rajasthan, where criminals often escape to.

It is not only petty crimes but also sensational ones like the murder of 20-year-old Sanskriti Rai on IIM road. History-sheeter from Sitapur Rajesh was arrested in the case. Similarly, Vinit Tiwari, a criminal from Rae Bareli, was arrested for the sensational murder and robbery case in which a guard was shot dead and Rs 6.4 lakh was looted from him outside a bank near Raj Bhawan in upmarket in July.

Likewise, history-sheeters from Sultanpur Rajesh Gupta aka Guddu and Rahul Gupta had looted a truck after murdering driver Dheerendra Pal in Madiaon and fled.

CO (crime) Deepak Kumar Singh said that over the past few years, there has been a spurt in the number of people residing on the outskirts of the city. This is especially due to rise in construction activity. There is an influx of labourers from Rae Bareli, Faizabad, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Jaunpur and Lakhimpur Kheri, among other districts, for work. “Taking advantage, miscreants from these areas sneak into the city and recce their targets before attacks,” added Singh.
