26-year-old carjacked at gunpoint in Mohali

MOHALI: Five goons robbed a 26-year-old man of his car at gunpoint on , near , on Monday night.

This is the third such incident in Tricity in the past one month.

Amandeep Singh, a resident of Haripur, Himachal Pradesh, told the police that he was driving home from his hair salon in Sector 40-C, Chandigarh, when a silver Maruti Suzuki Swift car intercepted him near a petrol pump, a few metres from Siswan T-point, around 8pm.

“There were five men in the car. Of the three who came out, two were armed with pistols and one with a rod. Pointing the pistols at me, they asked me step out. When I did not, the rod-wielding man knocked at my car window. As soon as I lowered the pane, he pulled me out, snatched the car keys and threw me on the road. They then sped away in my car. The other car followed them,” he added.

Amandeep said the goons had been following him from Chandigarh. “After robbing my car, they went towards Punjab.”

Amandeep then called up the police.

Mullanpur SHO Rajesh Asteer, said, “We are on the trail of the accused.”

Amandeep’s, too, was driving a Maruti Suzuki Swift car, which was white in colour.

Sources in police said, “The accused fled towards Chandigarh. The UT police have tightened security in Chandigarh and set up checkpoints on various roads.”

After recording Amandeep’s statement, a case would be registered, said police.
