Chennai auto-rickshaw driver murdered

CHENNAI: An autorickshaw driver, who had been missing since November 19, was found dead in bushes near Thirumudivakkam on the Tambaram-Nemilicherry road here on Monday.
Inquiries revealed that the , Syed Ismail, had been murdered by Surendran, 32, of Nandhivaram near Guduvanchery and his friend Balaji, 33, of Chinnamalai as the former’s son had developed an illicit relationship with Surendran’s wife Sumathi. The woman had eloped with Ismail’s son Azharuddin a month ago.

Ismail went missing on November 19 night. On November 20, his family members lodged a man missing complaint with police.

On Monday, Surendran and Balaji surrendered before a magistrate court in Saidapet. The magistrate remanded them in judicial custody and informed the concerned police about the surrender of the duo.

Police later recovered the decomposed body of Ismail.

Inquiries revealed that after Sumathi eloped with Azharuddin, Surendran decided to take revenge on him. He met his friend Balaji, who was involved in some crime, and sought his help to eliminate Azharuddin.

As per their plan, they went to and waited for Azharuddin. But Azharuddin didn’t turn up. They saw Azharuddin’s father and decided to kidnap Ismail to nab his son.

Surendran and Balaji boarded the autorickshaw as customers. As the autorickshaw moved, the duo picked up a quarrel with Ismail. They strangled him and dumped the body on the roadside and escaped in the autorickshaw.
