Bharathiar University selects syndicate nominee for VC search committee

COIMBATORE: Former vice-chancellor of S P Thyagarajan has been selected as the for the vice-chancellor search committee of the . He was selected unanimously at a syndicate meeting held in Chennai on Wednesday.
Tyagarajan is the second member of the after C Subramaniam, former vice-chancellor of Tamil University, who was selected by the senate.

The governor would nominate another member who would complete the VC search panel.

The term of A Ganapathi, the last VC who was suspended on graft charges, ends in March.

The syndicate also decided to allow study centres, centres for participatory programmes and centre for collaboration of industry and institution, which offer the university’s distance education courses, operate till students admitted in 2018-2019 batch graduate. While the special syndicate meeting had been convened to select a VC search committee nominee, the university had added this in the agenda.

A source in the syndicate said though the syndicate had decided to allow the centres to operate till the students who were admitted in 2018-2019 complete the courses, “they can’t admit students in the coming academic year.”
